Heaven on Earth
2023 - on going
Heaven on Earth is a long-term photographic project that began in late 2023, during a time of deep personal loss when my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In that moment, I felt an urgent need to question how, both individually and collectively, we confront suffering and death. At the same time, I was drawn to explore my relationship with her and, more broadly, with the feminine principle.
Guided by a passion for anthropology and archaeology, I turned to the Ancient Mysteries of the Mediterranean, a millennia-old spiritual tradition that placed the Goddess, the Great Mother, at the center of the sacred. This forgotten memory tells of peaceful, matrifocal cultures that flourished long before the Indo-European invasions, in which feminine and masculine coexisted in harmony. Over time, dominant historiography replaced this heritage with patriarchal narratives built on domination and the systematic erasure of the feminine.
Meeting Alessandra Di Gesù, a priestess of the Ancient Mysteries, allowed me to enter a living community that carries this ancestral wisdom into the present through initiatory journeys, seasonal rites, and shamanic practices. My photographs bear witness to this encounter and translate its sensory dimension: pilgrimages, ceremonies, and sacred landscapes become spaces where memories buried by official history resurface.
Heaven on Earth is both a visual and inner journey. It invites us to remember who we truly are, to reconnect with the roots of a forgotten spirituality, and to rediscover within our own consciousness the earthly paradise that ancient cultures knew how to guard. By reclaiming a sacred feminine perspective and exposing the lingering wounds of the patriarchal system —oppression, alienation, and the denial of otherness—the work proposes a way to heal inner and collective fractures. Through images that weave myth and symbol, it calls for a new balance where life, death, and regeneration are embraced as inseparable aspects of the same mystery.
